ANITA IRENE MINOT

Born in Stockton, CA/attended Grammar School at Wasco and graduated from University High school in Oakland. Her parents, brother and sister were born in Tennessee and came to California to help homestead some land near Fresno.

Anita’s mother died when Anita was 8 years old and her aunt and older sister helped in rearing her. After a few years her Protestant father married a wonderful Catholic lady who also added two stepchildren to the family.

Anita met Roland Minot in 1949 and converted to Catholicism under instruction from Father Ronald Scott at St. Elizabeth’s. They were married in 1950 at St. Elizabeth’s and had 5 children who all attended St. Joseph Grammar and High schools here at St. Joseph’s Parish.

Anita was one of the “hot dog ladies” who helped with school lunches at the Cafeteria. She was also active with school affairs and working with other mothers. After her children finished with higher education and married they eventually gave her 10 grand children who lived close by and she completely enjoyed their visits and her opportunities to baby-sit them and watch them mature.

Also, after her children had grown and left home, Anita worked at the Alameda County Recorders office and was able to retire after 10 years of service. She enjoyed commuting to work and meeting new friends after being a housewife for more than 30 years.

Her favorite invention was the telephone! She loved to talk, especially to her closest friends Rosy and Nancy. She has known them since their high school days and would be on the phone today if it were possible. (by the way, Rosy and Nancy are here this morning). Roland used to call home from work and the line was always busy. Once in a while, the phone would ring but, alas, this was because she left home to go shopping!

We know that she must be happy now in being able to communicate with Saints with or without a telephone.
